Recipe for Real Estate
Ingredients:
Attention to Detail and Negotiating Skills
Customer Service
Tenacity and Enthusiasm
Start with Attention to Detail
and Negotiating Skills
I hold a law degree from the University of Denver’s
Sturm College of Law, which provided me with years of
practice in detailed reading, writing, and analysis.
Paying close attention to the details is second nature
to a survivor of law school! I love taking the skills
I gained from law school and honed through years of
legal work and using them to benefit my clients, whether
it is in writing a contract, doing a comparative market
analysis, or negotiating every step of the real estate
process.
Add Customer Service
As a young man, I held the position as the lead server
in the dining room of the prestigious Castle Pines Golf
Club. Attending to the needs of our clientele, which
included former Presidents, demanded both acute listening
skills and the desire to go the extra mile to be sure
everyone was well taken care of. I believe that nothing
is more important in the real estate business, or in
any business, than taking good care of people.
Mix in Tenacity and Enthusiasm
During my undergraduate years at Colorado State, I worked
at a small microbrewery in Fort Collins. While in school,
I worked my way up to the position of Assistant Brewmaster.
Because my interest in creating recipes and brewing
beer was so great, I pursued a post-graduate degree
in Fermentation Science and returned home to Virginia
to open my own brewery. During this time, the early
1990’s, only two microbreweries existed in Virginia
and state laws were very restrictive. It required two
years to complete all of the licensing requirements
and to get the plant put together. This same enthusiasm
and tenacity gives my clients an edge, whether we are
looking to buy just the right property with pristine
woodwork or working together to sell in a challenging
location.
Combine
Makes one creative, intelligent, well-rounded Realtor.
Serves many and may be re-used!
Volunteering in New Orleans' 9th Ward
After Hurricane Katrina

In November 2006, only 15 months following the devastation
of Hurricane Katrina, the National Association of Realtors
was the first major group to hold a conference in New
Orleans. Over the course of 4 days, hundreds of people
worked in City Park, libraries, schools, and in building
projects in the catastrophically hit 9th Ward. We worked
building houses with Habitat for Humanity's Musician's
Village project, spearheaded by Harry Connick Jr., and
Wynton Marsalis. The goal of the project is to provide
affordable housing for the many musicians who lost their
homes in the storm...
