2323 East Dakota Avenue
The first International
Style house built in Denver in 1935 was designed
by architect Casper Hegner for his family and is found
in East Washington Park. |
Washington Park
Built in 1899, the 162-acre Washington Park,
with Smith and Grasmere lakes each ending the long
grassy meadow, is a local recreational haven. The
three-story red brick 1926 South High School, complete
with griffins perched on its roof, overlooks Washington
Park from the southeast corner. From I-25 to Cherry
Creek and from University Boulevard to Downing Street,
the neighborhood is rich with entertainment, like
the cluster of small shops and restaurants on South
Gaylord and South Pearl Streets.

WASHINGTON PARK BOATHOUSE
AND PAVILION
The 1913 boathouse on the south shore of Smith
Lake has a two-story lakefront façade and an
open pavilion over enclosed boat storage. In winter,
it served as a warming house for ince skaters. The
structure is a mix of Prairie-style, Italianate, and
Arts and Crafts elements outlined with electric lights
to create a dreamy nocturnal reflection. It was designed
by J. J. B. Benedict and restored in 1987 by Anthony
Pellecchia Associates. |
